Table 3 National Bargaining Conference Update
It was with great enthusiasm and interest that I attended this year’s
Bargaining conference. The process was very interesting to say the
least. Contacts were made and valuable information was exchanged.
We started the conference with presentations from various keynote speakers. Panel
presentations were well received by all in attendance. The balance
of the conference was spent in workshops broken down at first by Regions,
then later by Tables.
Within our bargaining team, delegates actively participated in reviewing
all demands submitted by the Alliance and Components. Rationale provided
in many instances when clarification needed by the representatives. Demands
were then prioritized based on 4 categories: Breakthrough proposals, Keeping
Pace proposals, Operational Demands, and Wages. There was a maximum
for each category, except wages, that was to be agreed upon by the group
to go forward as part of our demands package. Over 900 demands were
submitted and reviewed.
The following list outlines the priorities as agreed upon by the delegates
of the TC group- Table 3 (in no specific order)
- Wages
- Vacation
- Union Leave
- Additional Family Related Leave
- Def’n of Family (Language)
- Harrassment
- Quality of Public Service
- Captive/Travel Time

- “Day is a Day”
- Terminable Allowance
- Designated Paid Holiday (Creation of an additional day)
- Bereavement Leave

This is not the final list, but what we felt was the starting point for
developing our Demands package.
Elections were held for the composition of our Bargaining team. The
members for this round of bargaining are:
Darrell-Lee MacKenzie (AGRU/SAGR)
Garry Larouche (NAT/NAT)
Daniel Dube (UEW/STE)
Peter Holland (UEW/STE)
Glen Whalley (UNDE/UEDN)
Phillip Robinson (GSU/SSG)
Carol Casey (UEW/STE)
Pamela Burns-Alternate (UEW/STE)
Terry Kiley-Alternate (UNDE/UEDN)
This conference was one that I will always remember as a rewarding and
learning experience. I truly was honored when chosen by my peers
back at the Eastern Bargaining Conference to attend the National Bargaining
Conference as a delegate, and as a representative of UCTE. Thank
you for your support.
In solidarity
