Barry Beaton, Acting Principle Keeper of Bonilla Island passed away at the age of
63.
The lighthouse keepers of the B.C. coast would like to express our deepest sympathies to Gwen, his wife, and their families during this time of sorrow. Our thoughts and prayers are with them. We sincerely hope that with family and friends by her side, the emotional wounds will heal as quickly as possible.

In memoriam
It is with great regret that UCTE announces the passing of Charles Foster, father of Rick Foster of Local 00056 Trent Canal. Mr. Foster passed away on Friday, December 14 at the Peterborough Regional Health Center as a result of a stroke suffered a week earlier. He was 89. Memorial donations to the Heart and Stroke Foundation or the PRHC Foundation would be appreciated.
UCTE offers its condolences to Brother Foster and his family during this trying time.

Despite departmental claims, Transportation Development Centre
(TDC) relocation to Ottawa is economic nonsense
It was recently announced that the TDC centre in Montreal would be
relocating to Ottawa. This surprising move is being explained
to the Union of Canadian Transportation Employees (UCTE) and its members
as one based on economic reasons, one that will have both cost-saving
and money-making potential. The unions were also informed that the
decision was based on the results of the Transport Canada comprehensive

filed by TI-06 in M&M.
Classification grievances are scheduled for June 2008.

father of UCTE member Rita Cantalini of Local 00018 in Toronto.
Visitations will be held on Wednesday August 1, 2007 at
Bernardo Funeral Home, 855 Albion Road, in Toronto, between 2
- 4 and 7 - 9.
Funeral Services will take place on Thursday August 2, 2007 at St. Andrews
Roman Catholic Church, 2547 Kipling Ave (North of Finch), Etobicoke at
10:00am.
In lieu of flowers, donations to the Credit Valley Hospital, Renal Care
Centre would be appreciated by the family - www.cvh.on.ca .

GTAA drug testing intrusive and unreasonable exercise of management
rights: ruling
A policy grievance launched by UCTE Local 00004 has finally ended, with
the arbitrator finding in favour of the Union. Random workplace
drug testing is intrusive and an unreasonable exercise of management rights.
The GTAA’s Drug and Alcohol Testing Policy was
developed and implemented without union input.

Can a legal activity constitute a violation of PSAC constitution? Tribunal
says yes
A recent tribunal established under paragraph 12 of Regulation 19 addressed
an issue where a legal activity can constitute a violation of the PSAC
Constitution. Specifically, the tribunal addressed an issue where
a member used the Access to Information Act to secure information
on other union members. The tribunal concluded that the request
for Access to Information constituted a reprehensible action that is liable

Transport Minister willing to add amendments to Bill C-6

in light of Minister Cannon's announcement during the latest SCOT meeting.
