UCTE is mandated to present to its members three national Educational Conferences. Participants attend either the Airports Conference, the Conference for Treasury Board members or the Conference for Separate Employers.

Conferences

The UCTE Airports Conference was held during the weekend of June 1-3, 2007 in Ottawa.

Members attending rated it one of the best they had attend. The three-day event covered a variety of topics. Of particular note were the full day of presentations given by PSAC staff members. Brother John Gordon opened our sessions with a keynote speech, followed by sessions dealing with Pensions and Benefits (Brothers Joel Harden and Gilles Bouchard), Essential Services, Exclusions and Contracting Out (Sisters Stephanie Copeland and Judith Monteith-Farrell), PSAC Social Justice Fund (Sister Louise Casselman), and Towards A Common Bargaining Strategy in the Airport Sector ( Sister Maggie Armstrong and Brother Sylvain Schetagne).

Other topics of interest were a review of the Drug and Alcohol Policy at GTAA, and a session on Trends and Emerging Issues in the airport sector. This was a perfect opportunity for members to raise questions, discuss issues facing them and review possible solutions and strategies.

The next conference will be offered to members employed by Separate Employers and will take place in Ottawa, November 15 to 18, 2007.
